He-Man Reborn

The popular cartoon series, "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe," is to return to the big screen.

The first time the character and toy (owned by Mattel) hit theaters was in 1987. Dolph Lundren played the He-Man character and Frank Langella was his nemesis, Skeletor. The movie was a flop.

I have to wonder if nobody wanted to see He-Man then, what makes Warner Bros. think we want to see him now?

Sadly, many of the things I cherished from my youth in the 80's have been dug up and re-done. For example, Strawberry Shortcake is a nice Saturday morning cartoon for my daughter. My Little Ponies are great and the same goes for the Care Bears. Hey, we got The Tranformers back (The next installment is due June 26.) But, I couldn't sit through the Garfield movies. Some characters never left. Alas, there will be more. Some will hit...and I feel there will be many misses.

The He-Man movie, titled "Masters of the Universe," will be brought to us via producer Joel Silver and Warner Bros. It said to be a live-action "reimagining" of the toy line. John Stevenson, co-director of "Kung Fu Panda", is set to direct. Mattel's Barry Waldo will be the executive producer.

  1. I believe the Minisode Network airs on Youtube may be a reason for interest. They have revived many old shows and there views and ratings help. But even with that it's a risk at best.
Unless some creative writing and dialogue comes into play. Actors and actresses think twice.
