Batman Suing Batman....sort of
Batman, the home of the largest oil refinery in Turkey, is a predominantly Kurdish town located on the Batman River. Huseyin Kalkan, the mayor of the town has decided to file a series of charges against Warner Bros and Christopher Nolan, the director of The Dark Knight.
Sorry folks...this is not a joke....
Mayor Kalkan has stated that "There is only one Batman in the world." and "The American producers used the name of our city without informing us."
What? Is this guy serious? Unfortunately....yes, he is. He claims to have evidence that will prove the city of Batman was founded before the 1939 debut of DC Comic's superhero by the same name.
According to Variety -- He also hopes to pin a number of unsolved murders along with the town's female suicide rate on the psychological impact the film's success had on Batman residence.
I wonder why suddenly there is a problem with Batman, the superhero.....could it be the nice amount of profit that it got worldwide from The Dark Knight? Any reason DC is not involved?
I don't think the movie has had any psychological impact on the people of Batman at all.....actually, I think it is the way things are done over there....
I came across an old article by the NY Times from 2006 where they discuss how there were so many "suicides" that the United Nations had to send someone to go check things out.....
There are also stories on how a person from Batman living in another area cannot use the name Batman in their business name.
What?
To see that little article I mentioned go here: Killing or Suicide?
Warner Bros has not received anything yet...so maybe he will change his mind.
