Looking Back – 2009 – Part One

This is a year where we saw many unexpected deaths, saw some interesting moves in the business of music, tweeted more than ever, watched the changes in social media, and consumed sometimes way too much information. Here is a look back at a few things explored here on CBMAM.

1- Music Videos – as there were not any really spectacular videos in my opinion, we did take in some from some great artists, and became fan of quite a few as well.

SEE THE VIDEOS HERE

2- Deaths – I would have to say in all my life that this would have to have been the year that celebrities deaths impacted me the most.  This year we lost Patrick Swayze , Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon, Ron Asheton, Lux Interior, Bea Arthur, Dom DeLuise, David Carradine, Koko Taylor, Titus Glover (Baatin), Gidget, Walter Cronkite, DJ AM, Michael Jackson, Les Paul, John Hughes, Mary Travers (Peter, Paul, and Mary), Jim Carroll , Lou Albano,John "Mr. Magic" Rivas, Ken Ober, Anthony Williams (Roc Raida), Brittany Murphy, and countless others.

3- Happy Returns – 2009 saw a few acts return and the fans were excited.

Massive Attack returned with an ep titled Splitting The Atom and then announced a new album. (massive)

AFI released a new album (Crash Love) after three years. (afi)

Alice In Chains returned with a new album since 1995 and the death of Layne Staley. It is titled ‘Black Gives Way to Blue.’ (AIC)

Bassnectar gave us ‘Cozza Frenzy’ after two years. (BNCozza)

Megadeth brought the ‘Endgame’, the newest release since 2007’s ‘United Abominations.’ (megadeth)

Green Day gave us the ‘21st Century Breakdown’ after 2004’s ‘American Idiot’. (green)

Beastie Boys gave us some music and a peek at things to come. (Beastie)

Boxcutter returned with ‘Arecibo Message.’ The last album was ‘Glyphic’ in 2007. (boxcut)

Placebo’s album ‘Meds’ came out in 2006. This year they gave us ‘Battle For The Sun’. (placebo)

Raekwon hit us hard with dropping ‘Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… Part II.’ His previous studio album was 2003’s ‘The Lex Diamond Story.’

The Prodigy returned to us with ‘Invaders Must Die after the not so loud release 2004’s Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned.’ (theprodnews)

With so much going on I probably am missing a few acts here…. who were you excited to see return? Who will you miss the most? What music videos caught your eye? Any recommendations for me to check out? Please feel free to comment.

Stay tuned for part 2.

In the meanwhile… let us not forget that new Nine Inch Nails album: (April Fools)

Happy New Years!!!!!

Hot Release : Boxcutter

Named after a signal sent into space to detect alien lifeforms, ‘Arecibo Message’, by Boxcutter, is being heralded as possibly his best work.

This album is more upbeat than the dubstep producers previous two albums 'Glyphic' and 'Oneiric'. It also features more guitars and bass than the previous albums which gives the listener a bit more texture. Check it out here:
