Mos Def, whose real name is Dante Terrell Smith, is being sought in Las Vegas by police on an arrest warrant. The warrant is stemming from a scuffle with a photographer at a fashion trade show last August say authorities and the victim.
Volker Corell, 60, a Los Angeles-based photographer states that the 35 year-old rapper/actor tore his camera from around his neck on August 26th.
The photographer was on assignment to take photos at the trade show when he was allegedly attacked. He states that the last photos taken on his camera before it was broken show Def clearly reaching for him. "The last shot was his hands in front of the lens," Corell said.
Las Vegas police spokesman Ramon Denby says that the invesigators expected Def to turn himself in by the end of the week and face the warrant charge of felony robbery and misdemeanor malicious destruction of property. The warrant was issued at the beginning of the week.
A conviction for misdemeanor destruction of property less than $250 can bring up to six months in county jail. Robbery can carry a sentence of probation or two to 15 years in state prison.
