Consumed Links - November 25, 2011

In the midst of the holiday season some people tend to miss some of the things going on around the web. Here's a few things you may have missed.

Who was recently voted the greatest guitarist of all time in a poll conducted by Rolling Stone? (contactmusic)

The late, great, Peter Steele has been commemorated in Brooklyn Park (metalunderground)

Spin Magazine and Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell take a look back at "Rusty Cage" after 20 years. (spin)

If what Universal alleges is true then Grooveshark may have little chance for defending themselves. (mashable)

Rowdy Roddy Piper recently uploaded this video on FunnyOrDie. Not as funny as I thought it would be. (FOD)

A woman filed a $200,00 lawsuit against American Airlines.... not for a reason you would expect. (eur)

Blogcritics tries to find out who the real drummer is on an early version of The Beatles' "Please Please Me" (blogcritics

Over at Slate there is a pretty good article about how drum machines changed pop music over the last 40 years. (slate)

"Black Rain" by Soundgarden

Black Rain by soundgardenworld

"Black Rain" is a new single off of the soon to be released album, titled, Telephantasm.  I have listened to the track a few times now and I cannot decide if I like it or not. It is a track from back in the Badmotorfinger days that never got finished. It has since been reworked.

I think it is going to be interesting to see how much, if any, impact this track will make. How many fans of the band were expecting a bit more from the band? Was this the right track? Did they wait too long to reunite? Only time will tell.

For more information on the band and the album release please check out:

Soundgarden To Reunite?

image

That’s right! As per Chris Cornell’s twitter – Soundgarden has announced that they will be reuniting this year.

The band recently reunited at one of Pearl Jam’s October Los Angeles shows. The last time that the band played together was in 1997. The last studio album was 1996’s ‘Down On The Upside.’

In the meantime, here are a couple faves.

If this works out… I might even forgive him for that awful album with Timbaland….

Chris Cornell And Trent Reznor

"You know that feeling you get when somebody embarrasses themselves so badly YOU feel uncomfortable? Heard Chris Cornell's record? Jesus." -- Trent Reznor (twitter)

Recently former Soundgarden/Audioslave singer Chris Cornell spoke to The Washington Post
where he spoke about his new album, Scream -"I think it's pretty obvious. I did the math as soon as I made the decision to make that record.", the critics, Trent Reznor,- .."That's kind of childish. To be honest, if I wanted to go out to blast records that I hate, I would be sitting on Twitter 24 hours a day blasting 96 percent of what comes out -- maybe 98 percent of what comes out. (Laughs.) There's a lot of music that I don't like.", working with Timbaland, and Soundgarden.

It is unclear to me when exactly this interview occurred. However it does seem that there was some bitterness in it.

I am all for artists to continue to recreate themselves. I was willing to give the album a listen and give a little review here on the blog. I couldn't. I could not sit through the album. It made me uncomfortable.

I will leave this to all of you to decide.

In what looks like the final say in this matter......

We will always have Trent's April Fool's Day joke.

Tours!

Here are a few artists making plans or are continuing for 2009 tours:

R&B group Boyz II Men are returning to the road in support of their 2007 album, "Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville USA." They will be hitting places in North America and Europe.

Electronic group MSTRKRFT will be heading out next month in support of their second album,"Fist of God," which is due March 17.

Recently Chris Cornell has added 10 dates in North America in support of his third solo effort, "Scream," which is set for release March 10.

Let's not forget.... The return of No Doubt w/ opener Paramore across North America. Sounds like destiny to me.

And finally... for now...

Faith No More is reunited for a tour in Europe in the summer.
