Looking Back – 2009 – Part One

This is a year where we saw many unexpected deaths, saw some interesting moves in the business of music, tweeted more than ever, watched the changes in social media, and consumed sometimes way too much information. Here is a look back at a few things explored here on CBMAM.

1- Music Videos – as there were not any really spectacular videos in my opinion, we did take in some from some great artists, and became fan of quite a few as well.

SEE THE VIDEOS HERE

2- Deaths – I would have to say in all my life that this would have to have been the year that celebrities deaths impacted me the most.  This year we lost Patrick Swayze , Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon, Ron Asheton, Lux Interior, Bea Arthur, Dom DeLuise, David Carradine, Koko Taylor, Titus Glover (Baatin), Gidget, Walter Cronkite, DJ AM, Michael Jackson, Les Paul, John Hughes, Mary Travers (Peter, Paul, and Mary), Jim Carroll , Lou Albano,John "Mr. Magic" Rivas, Ken Ober, Anthony Williams (Roc Raida), Brittany Murphy, and countless others.

3- Happy Returns – 2009 saw a few acts return and the fans were excited.

Massive Attack returned with an ep titled Splitting The Atom and then announced a new album. (massive)

AFI released a new album (Crash Love) after three years. (afi)

Alice In Chains returned with a new album since 1995 and the death of Layne Staley. It is titled ‘Black Gives Way to Blue.’ (AIC)

Bassnectar gave us ‘Cozza Frenzy’ after two years. (BNCozza)

Megadeth brought the ‘Endgame’, the newest release since 2007’s ‘United Abominations.’ (megadeth)

Green Day gave us the ‘21st Century Breakdown’ after 2004’s ‘American Idiot’. (green)

Beastie Boys gave us some music and a peek at things to come. (Beastie)

Boxcutter returned with ‘Arecibo Message.’ The last album was ‘Glyphic’ in 2007. (boxcut)

Placebo’s album ‘Meds’ came out in 2006. This year they gave us ‘Battle For The Sun’. (placebo)

Raekwon hit us hard with dropping ‘Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… Part II.’ His previous studio album was 2003’s ‘The Lex Diamond Story.’

The Prodigy returned to us with ‘Invaders Must Die after the not so loud release 2004’s Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned.’ (theprodnews)

With so much going on I probably am missing a few acts here…. who were you excited to see return? Who will you miss the most? What music videos caught your eye? Any recommendations for me to check out? Please feel free to comment.

Stay tuned for part 2.

In the meanwhile… let us not forget that new Nine Inch Nails album: (April Fools)

Happy New Years!!!!!

Avenged Sevenfold Drummer Dies

Jimmy Sullivan, aka “The Rev,” was found dead in his home in Huntington Beach, California, Monday December 28. He was 28 years old.

Police at the scene stated that it appears that he died of natural causes but an autopsy will be performed by the county coroner.

Currently the band was working on their fifth album, a follow-up to 2007’s self-titled album. The new album was due sometime in mid 2010.

I send my condolences to his wife and family.

From the band’s website:

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan. Jimmy was not only one of the world's best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy's family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Jimmy you are forever in our hearts.
We love you.

Man Goes To Jail For Eating Tiger

China - A villager from Mengla, Yunnan Province, has been sentenced to jail for 12 years for killing and eating what is thought to be the last Indochinese tiger in China.

Kang Wannian claims to have killed the tiger in self defense. He came across the tiger in February while fishing for freshwater clams at a nature reserve near China's border with Laos.

His complete sentence is 10 years for killing a rare animal and 2 years for illegal possession of firearms. He was also fined 480,000 yuan ($70,000USD).

The animal, the only known tiger in the area was last photographed at the reserve in 2007 and has not been seen since the incident occurred reported a Yunnan based newspaper, Life News. Life News also quoted the Forestry Bureau as stating that there is no evidence that that was the last tiger in China.

Four villagers who helped dismember and eat the tiger have been sentenced to three to four years for "covering up and concealing criminal gains."

There are fewer than 1,000 IndoChinese tigers in the forests of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. It is on the brink of extinction.

Is This A Metal Fans Dream? The Rumors Were True!

As recently posted on Metallica’s website:

Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax . . . the rumors are true!

You've been posting and chatting about it for months and we're here now to confirm it . . . Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax will all share the same stage for the first time EVER! Look for the four of us at the Sonisphere shows in Warsaw, Poland and Prague, Czech Republic on June 16 and 19, 2010 with a few more of the festival dates still in the works, you can be sure these shows won't be the only ones.

In the words of Lars: "Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal's big 4 would not only still be around and more popular than ever, but will now play together for the first time...what a mindfuck! Bring it on!"

What more can we say??

~~~~~~~
Actually, I don’t think that there is much more they could say.  The question is…… how many of you still care?
According to police, a loud pop sound was heard in the students' room and when relatives went to check on him and see what happened they found that the lower part of the his face had been blown off.
Forensics show in a report that the gum was covered in some unknown substance. It is thought that the substance was of explosive material. Simian Mobile Disco ft Beth Ditto – Cruel Intentions
I like this song. I found it to be catchy and it can be danceable.
The video? I don’t like it all that much. I will however give credit to the band for not putting out just any old video. I will also give credit to the director, Saam Farahmand for putting it together.
Sorry, but I wouldn’t mind an alternative video.
The single is from the album, Temporary Pleasure, which is out now.
Check out the band’s site for more info: smd
As an added bonus, here is the great remix from dubstep producer, Joker.
