DMX MisBehavin' ....in jail.

Rapper DMX has reportedly attacked a corrections officer. Reports say that DMX (real name Earl Simmons) threw a tray of food at the officer when he was told that he could not have a dinner meal he took from a serving tray.

Simmons is currently serving the 90-day sentence that stemmed from
Arizona drug and animal cruelty charges. This incident could give him eight more years.

This is apparently the second incident involving the rapper since he started his term. According to AzCentral and TMZ on the first incident:

'He was moved from Tent City to a solitary cell, where he will spend 23 hours a day, following a verbal altercation with Maricopa County Sheriff's detention officers on Sunday (February 8). The rapper will likely remain for the next month, said Lt. Brian Lee, a sheriff's spokesman. DMX was serving his 90-day sentence with more than 2,000 other inmates in Tent City until Sunday, when he refused to report for his designated job in the jail.'(AzCentral)

"
After X failed to report for his medication, officials say the former platinum rapper began cussing at officers and threatened to "assault somebody to get some respect." It all started when he refused to report for work, telling officers, "I already have a job and don't need this (expletive)." (TMZ)

And now this? Does anyone else think now that the man needs some help? Clearly something is wrong with him (mentally).

Daptone Records Robbery...

Brooklyn Vegan recently reported that recording mecca, Daptone Records was robbed recently. As items are bound to appear on craigslist and ebay information relating to the incident is being asked for by head honcho Gabriel Roth. In a letter sent out he sites many items broken and lost :

"Friends and associates, As you may have heard through the grapevine by now, Daptone was broken into last night. Unfortunately, there was a lot of equipment (mics, pre-amps, monitors, turntables, guitars, amps, computers, etc.) stolen and damaged. It is going to take us a while to go through everything and take full stock of what was stolen, and we are not supposed to touch anything until the cops come back to collect fingerprints so we can only guess what's missing from some mic drawers and cabinets."

This is such a shame....read on here: Brooklyn Vegan

Common + Microsoft = Clothing

Rapper/Mr. Everything, Common, has teamed up with company Microsoft to produce a line of retro-style t-shirts. The collection, named Softwear, looks back to when the company was in its beginning stages.

The line's official spokesman, Common, described the fledgling brand as "very fly and progressive."
"I'm very enthused about it," Common stated. "No matter what size, it's gonna look right on you…Stay up and check out the Softwear."

Currently there are only a few shirts (Classic Designs and Common Designs). The team is hoping that as more shirts come so will the fans.

One shirt, named "The Creator: The Code of Hip-Hop," features lyrics to Common's 1994 hit "I Used to Love H.E.R."

Hammer To Star In Reality Show

"Hammertime," a new reality show starring MC Hammer, has been picked up by cable channel A&E.

The focus of the half hour show executive produced by J.D. Roth is set to focus on his life with his wife and five children.

Senior VP Alternative, Robert Sharenow, said "MC Hammer is an iconic figure in American pop culture, but many people only know him for his music and fashion sense. Now A&E takes an unprecedented look behind his larger-than-life personality and into his life as a devoted husband, father and business entrepreneur."

"Here's a dad with five kids, married to the same woman for more than 23 years, living in the same place where he grew up and going to church every Sunday," Roth said. "He's had his ups and downs, and it's what makes him such a character you root for."

I hope it isn't boring.

DOOM

DOOM (as he wants it - no longer MF) finally has a release date for the anticipated new album, BORN LIKE THIS. The title of the album (to be released by Lex Records on March 24) is inspired by poet Charles Butkowski's poem, "Dinosauria, We."

The first single titled, "Ballskin" (prod. by Jake One) has been on DOOM's myspace page for quite some time now and has at the time of writing this hit 154,327 plays.

Frequent collaborator, Ghostface Killah (appearing as Tony Starks) is featured on the track Angelz and Raekwon guests on Yessir. On the track titled "Cellz" DOOM samples a performance from Butkowski.

The J Dilla track "Lightworks" gets a vocal treatment. Also, rapper Kurious appears on either track "More Rhymin'" or on "Better Than Beer." (That depends on your source for tracklisting.)

It is said that along with this album DOOM is planning other releases for this year....

There has been a small conflict in the actual tracklisting. Here is the one that I think is most accurate:

01- Supervillain Intro

02- Gazillion Ear

03- Ballskin

04- Yessir ft Raekwon

05- Absolutely

06- Rap Ambush

07- Lightworks

08- Batty Boyz

09- Costume Foolery

10- Angelz ft Tony Starks

11- Cellz

12- Stil Dope

13- Better Than Beer ft Kurious

14- Microwave Mayo

15- More Rhymin'

16 - That's That

17- In Ya Dreams

18- Thank Ya

Note: there was one tracklisting I saw that mentioned 2 track names "Suppervillainz" and "Bump's Message." At this time I cannot confirm them...I plan to keep you posted.

Whistle To This....

51-year old Leopold Wrobel, of Wingerworth, England was sentenced recently to 20 weeks in prison for repeatedly whistling the theme song of "The Addams Family" TV show at his neighbors.

Mr. Wrobel was convicted of violating an antisocial behavior order directing him to cease whistling the tune at the neighbors. He was also found him guilty of two counts of harassment by Magistrates at the Chesterfield, England court.

One of his neighbors, Kathleen Sharpe, told the court that Mr. Wrobel was always waiting with his whistling whenever she left her house.

In court Wrobel said he only whistled at his dog. However, much to his demise, closed-circuit TV footage shown to the court shows him repeatedly whistling when the couple left or arrived home.

News

The U.K. Government has refused to accept the European Parliament's legal affairs committee ruling on a 95-year copyright term for music recordings. The European ruling is to be voted on by the Council of Ministers. The U.K. government recently shifted its public position from keeping the copyright term at 50-years and moving it to a 70-year term. David Lammy, the U.K. minister of state for intellectual property, stated "While the U.K. believes that performers should be protected throughout their lifetime a period of 95 years goes beyond what is needed to achieve this aim."

Lawsuit: Manu Dibango

Cameroonian singer Manu Dibango filed a lawsuit in Paris against Pop artists Rihanna and Michael Jackson over a hook from his 1972 song, "Soul Makossa", being sampled without his permission. He is reportedly seeking 500,000 euros (approx. 641,000USD) in damages.

Jackson had accepted that the parts of the track were used on his "Wanna Be Starting Something" from the "Thriller" album and the singers reached a financial aggreement.

However, Rihanna obtained permission in 2007 to use on her hit single, "Don't Stop The Music", without contacting the original artist.

Dibango's lawyers have seperately asked the French courts to block labels, EMI, Warner, and SonyBMG (now Sony Music Entertainment) from recieving any income from the records until the matter is settled.

French judges are to decide if the 75-year-old Dibango's case will be heard on Feb 17.

Spike Lee/ James Brown Biopic

It has been reported that filmmaker Spike Lee is planning on going forward with his plan to have Wesley Snipes star as the late James Brown in an upcoming biopic. Currently Snipes is awaiting appeal on a three-year prison sentence for tax evasion. He was sentenced in April 2008.

Lee recently told MTV News, "We're doing it together, it's going to happen."

Lee announced his plan to make the biopic the day after Brown's death in 2006. Paramount Pictures and Lee acquired the rights shortly thereafter.

Book- Dimebag Darrell: He Came To Rock

Following his tragic death in 2004 by a gunman while performing onstage, Pantera/Damageplan guitarist, Dimebag Darrell has ben commemorated with nearly everything from a clothing line to magazine issues. The legacy continues with brother and bandmate Vinnie Paul's book, "Dimebag Darrell: He Came To Rock," that is released under his Big Vin Records imprint.

For the book, Paul and their father, Jerry Abbott, put together personal photos along with friends, releatives, photographers, and crew members to show many sides of the fallen guitarist. Writers Susan Doll and David Morrow collected anecdotes from members of bands, such as Anthrax and Metallica, and friends to make this a more personal story.

The book will come with a special remastered version of 2005' "DimeVision."

"Tour Stories", the lead track off of the forthcoming "Montezuma's Revenge," is a smooth, laid-back track that takes the listener back to where the essence of what 90's hip-hop was.

With the beat by Domino and executive produced by Prince Paul, this is the track that picks up where the group's highest charting album, "93 'til Infinity", left off.

The state of hip-hop? If all of the independent labels continue the trend and bring back what many of us loved about the art form it can only get better.

He-Man Reborn

The popular cartoon series, "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe," is to return to the big screen.

The first time the character and toy (owned by Mattel) hit theaters was in 1987. Dolph Lundren played the He-Man character and Frank Langella was his nemesis, Skeletor. The movie was a flop.

I have to wonder if nobody wanted to see He-Man then, what makes Warner Bros. think we want to see him now?

Sadly, many of the things I cherished from my youth in the 80's have been dug up and re-done. For example, Strawberry Shortcake is a nice Saturday morning cartoon for my daughter. My Little Ponies are great and the same goes for the Care Bears. Hey, we got The Tranformers back (The next installment is due June 26.) But, I couldn't sit through the Garfield movies. Some characters never left. Alas, there will be more. Some will hit...and I feel there will be many misses.

The He-Man movie, titled "Masters of the Universe," will be brought to us via producer Joel Silver and Warner Bros. It said to be a live-action "reimagining" of the toy line. John Stevenson, co-director of "Kung Fu Panda", is set to direct. Mattel's Barry Waldo will be the executive producer.

A-Team Movie Taking Shape

Over the last two years (at least I think it has been that long) several actors, writers, producers, have been attached to the feature film version of popular 80's show The A-Team.

It now seems that things shall be moving along. It is being reported that Fox will distribute the movie and directors Ridley and Tony Scott are set to produce. The shows creator, Stephen J. Cannell is also to be involved as a producer.

Fox has the release date set for June 2010. There has not been word of casting decisions at this time. So, I thought I would take a change and create my own cast.....

Col. John "Hannibal" Smith - this is tough... here's who I don't want...Tom Hanks, John Travolta, Sly Stallone, Bruce Willis, Will Smith. How about Jack Nicholson?

Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck -I do not want Tom Cruise.... Jim Carrey could do this...or...Adam Sandler....or...even Brad Pitt perhaps....even Leonardo Decaprio could pull this off.

Capt. H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock - Jim Carrey

Sgt. Bosco B.A. Baracus - I think Mr. T should do it....just kidding.... Common? Definitely NOT 50cent or Diddy. Maybe we should stay away from rappers? Too easy. NO WILL SMITH!!! Even Queen Latifah could pull this one off..... Ice Cube could do it if not Common.

Who knows what we will get....but it better work.
