Useless Facts Of The Year Part Four

Here we are at the fourth and final installment of this years' round-up of "useless" facts. If you missed any of the other facts check out the sidebar.

October -

**Dragonflies are born without wings. They are born into a larvae state and eventually will undergo a partial metamorphosis in which they grow their wings. Depending on the species of dragonfly, some will remain in the larvae state (nymph stage) for up to three years or more. This is how they will spend most of their lives. Sadly, when we see the adult winged dragonfly they are actually near the last stage of their life.

**Did you know?
26 billion pickles are packed each year in the U.S. That's about nine pounds of pickles per person.

**Did you know that the movie 'A Nightmare On Elm Street', which premiered November 9, 1984, only cost $1.8 million to produce and grossed $25.5 million at the United States box office?

**With the popularity of the movie, its sequel, 'A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge' (released 1985), grossed $3.3 million in the first three days from its premiere.

November -

**Did you know that a wolf's sense of smell is about 100 times better than that of humans? In favorable weather they can smell its prey about 1.75 miles away.

**Did you know that there are more than 106 million accounts on Twitter? There are more than 200 million on Facebook.

**"The Christmas Song" by Alvin and the Chipmunks is arguably their biggest hit. Did you know that it was a single from their debut album 'Let's All Sing With The Chipmunks,' which was released January 1, 1959?

**Did you know that Taco Bell sells over two billion tacos a year in the United States? They sell over a billion burritos.

The Music We Love Part 1

Bookmark and Share
As we continue on with looking back at the year I thought I we should take a look and listen at all the great music that was shared.

In January I told you about an absolutely fantastic compilation featuring 83 tracks of smashing industrial. What made this even sweeter? It is for a great cause. Check out the teaser trailer for Electronic Saviors and if you haven't had the chance to pick it up and want to know more click here for the original post.

Some of you were also introduced to the sounds of Film Noir World. From the original post:
'Film Noir World is a one man production from Nottingham, England. His music is reminicent of old school beautiful soundtracks. First up is a track from his newest release (out now!) titled, "Dark Earth." The second is from his first release, "It's Here."  One could never know what you are going to get when you see referenced influences such as Tim Burton, Massive Attack, Portishead, Moloko, and Danny Elfman.  This is definitely an artist to be on the watch for.'

Click here to check out the music and get some free downloads.

In February, we checked out some sounds from Sybreed. Below is the video for the song "Isolate". Click here to view the original post and check out the video for "Bioactive".

Let's not forget Slipknot with not one, but two videos (click here) as well as two from Kittie (here)!

Another great artist, Ya Za, was introduced to all of you. From the original post:
'Ilyasin Zarifa, aka "Ya Za", is an artist who grew up in Nashville, TN. She describes her sound as "well-rounded," with influences such as; Prince, Pat Benatar, Stevie Wonder, and Annie Lennox, as well as many others.'

Check out the original post here and get your download!

Well, this is only the beginning. There were some other great features from those months but I couldn't possibly fit all of that here. Feel free to check them all out!  Don't forget... SUPPORT THE ARTISTS!!!

Useless Facts Of The Year Part One

Bookmark and Share

Here we are nearing the end of 2010. Once again, it is time to recap some of the best things shared here on CBMAM. Let's start with some things we learned.

January -

**Eclipse shadows travel at 1,100 miles per hour at the equator and up to 5,000 miles per hour near the poles.

**A praying mantis has one single ear. It is located in the middle of its thorax on the underside. It is a deep slit inside the thorax.
The mantis is deaf to most non-ultrasonic sounds.

**Did you know that the mask Michael Myers wore in the original “Halloween” movie is actually a Captain Kirk (William Shatner/Star Trek) mask painted white?

**"Scooby Doo, Where Are You!" was originally thought up as  "Mysteries Five," a show featuring five teens and their dog named Too Much who were in a band. When "The Mysteries Five" (which included the dog) were not performing they would solve mysteries of the paranormal kind. Needless to say after a few name changes and tweeks, "Scooby Doo, Where Are You!" finally got its debut on Saturday, September 13, 1969.

February -

**Did you know???
AOL Time Warner owns the copyright of “Happy Birthday To You” and will continue to do so until 2030 when the copyright expires. This is the  reason movies most often use different songs for birthday scenes. AOL Time Warner earns over $2 million per year from royalties for the song.

**Hallmark produced its first valentine in 1913.

**1950's --
Ella Fitzgerald was the first African American artist to perform at Hollywood's legendary nightclub, Mocambo, after Marilyn Monroe lobbied on her behalf. In 1958, she was the first woman to win a Grammy.

**The Doors were the first American rock band to have eight consecutive gold records.

March -

**Did you know that "EMI" (EMI Music Group) stands for Electric & Musical Industries Ltd. ? The company was formed in March 1931  from a merger between UK Columbia Graphophone Company and Gramophone Company.

**Did you know? Pygmy Marmosets can live to be 15 years old. Their small size makes it easier for them to hide from predators.

Stay tuned for Part Two.
