McCain Lawyers Seek Dismissal

In a previous article I mentioned how there were many artists upset with the use of their music by the Republican Party. (here)

Well, lawyers for the McCain campaign are stating that they had nothing to do with a 120-second-long commercial that had a snippet of "Running on Empty" by Jackson Browne and that it was the ones at fault are the Republican Party of Ohio.

It is also being stated in documents in response to Mr. Browne that the usage was fair because it was not being used for profit but as part of politics..... TMZ has the docs..... (here)

One To Watch: Mayer Hawthorne & The County

Mayer Hawthorne, one of the newest members of the Stones Throw roster, is a pleasant surprise.

With a soulful sound that could have come straight out of the Motown Vaults, Mayer Hawthorne has created a sound that may have long been missing from the music realm as of late. At first listen one would think that the single, “Just Ain't Gonna Work Out” and the B-side, "When I Said Goodbye" are just recreations or remixes. One would be surprised to know that Mayer wrote, played, recorded and sang on these tracks.

I recommend this to anyone who likes to just feel good, relax, and missed that true R&B/Soul sound.

Chinese Democracy -- my thoughts.

I listened....and perhaps I should attempt to listen to it a few more times than I did.

I know what some people are going to do with this album...some will love...some will hate....some will not put thought in it and (try to) get over the fact that the original line-up is not there and that this could not have sounded like the other albums...and with that hang-up...they will most likely not try to hear this album. As someone who grew up listening to GN'R to the others --- GET OVER IT!!! THEY BROKE UP YEARS AGO....THEY GOT OVER IT!!!! .....unless you happen to be Adler...but that is another story.

The album was not bad...but for me...it wasn't that good either. Some of it truly was painful to listen to. Some of the songs felt like Axl followed other bands into their studio sessions, waited until they threw away a song...and did the song himself. One song reminds me of Nine Inch Nails, another of Pink Floyd. another of KMFDM. I felt confused by what I was hearing.

I was disappointed...almost....but, unlike many, I was not waiting for this album to come out. I didn't think it would come out.

The music itself wasn't too bad.

The one track that stood out was (for me) "If The World" because of the music....I wonder if I could get the instrumental.

Enough about what I thought.... hear for yourself: Chinese Democracy

Rapper Confesses....Gets 20 Years....

Police say that 25-year-old Rico Todriquez Wright, a rapper, wrote a song describing how he shot a man twice and felt so good about it and calling out the victim by name.

The victim, Chad Blue, told police he had known Wright before the September 2006 shooting. He testified companions egged Wright on as he chased and shot his victim in the thigh and groin. Blue told police he recognized Wright's voice on a CD, rapping "Chad Blue knows how I shoot."

Wright was sentenced to 20 years for two counts of aggravated assault and shall spend another 20 years on probation.

Status Check : Munsters Remake

The Wayans Brothers announced their involvement with a remake of the 50's television show, "The Munsters", four years ago. Recently Shawn Wayans stated that the remake is almost ready. They are currently finalizing work on the third draft of the script. The characters will remain the way they were (no race change or type change) but the family will be placed in modern times. I hope it works. This is one of those tv shows that never was truly accepted in the movies or when remade in the past.

Who Will Be The Copyright Czar?

I read an article recently discussing possible picks for President-elect Obama for the position of Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator.

From the article: "
Whoever Obama appoints can expect scrutiny from the content and technology industries. While ostensibly a coordinating position, the copyright czar job could easily expand to include advising the president." This will be a very important topic for the music industry and will effect many. This position was presented when President Bush signed the Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property (PRO-IP) Act in September.

Pennsylvania Man Charged With Criminal Attempt To Commit Robbery

Police say a central Pennsylvania man tried to rob a bank. The problem was that the tellers' cash drawers were empty.

Police Lt. Scott Laird said the tellers were waiting for their cash drawers to be filled when a man entered a Susquehanna Bank branch Thursday morning and demanded money. The first teller fainted and the others showed the man the empty drawers.

The robber apparently then threatened to file a complaint with bank management and left.

A customer at the drive-through called 911 and soon a 48-year-old man was arrested about 10 blocks away. He was charged with criminal attempt to commit robbery and was being held in the York County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.

London --- Urban Music Awards Cancelled

The 6th Annual Urban Music Awards in London were called off on November 15th after a triple stabbing left one guest in critical condition and two others wounded.

The show had to be aborted after an hour and a half when a massive brawl erupted. Police were forced to seal off the O2 Arena in the British capital to keep 300 people inside the venue until the early hours the next morning.

London's Metropolitan Police have stated that one man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Attendees questioned told authorities they had witnessed chairs, champagne bottles and broken glass fly through the air. It is not known which celebrities were there for the ceremony.

Suge Knight Suing Kanye West

Marion "Suge" Knight, former CEO of Death Row Records, was at a 2005 pre-MTV VMA party where he ended up getting shot in the right leg. He blames Kanye West for allowing a gunman to slip past security.

Knight is suing West "for all of his bullet wound-related expenses and for the damages for a loss and enjoyment of an earring." The earring in question is a 15-carat, $135,00 diamond stud he claims went missing during the incident.

TMZ has posted documents that were part of his bankruptcy filing where he included suing West.

The suit reads:
"It was reasonably foreseeable to defendants that the party would present a dangerous environment with the possibility of weapons (including firearms) being used by or against party guests given the well-known feuds that have at times pitched East Coast rap and hip-hop stars against West Coast rap and hip-hop stars, some of whom would be attending the party with their associates."

It adds:
"certain hip-hop artists who were invited to the party ... were known not to be friendly to Mr. Knight."

The man who shot Suge is unknown.

Update: Don Cornelius Charged

As previously reported, Don Cornelius was arrested last month after allegedly getting into a dispute with an unnamed person at his home.

The alleged victim was female but police will not say if the person was his wife.

The former "Soul Train" host has been charged with three counts of spousal battery, one count of dissuading a witness from making a police report, and one count of assault with a deadly weapon.

If Cornelius is convicted of all of the charges filed by the L.A. City Attorney it may land him in jail for five years. The charges, all misdemeanors, are said to be from two separate incidents.

Batman Suing Batman....sort of

Batman, the home of the largest oil refinery in Turkey, is a predominantly Kurdish town located on the Batman River. Huseyin Kalkan, the mayor of the town has decided to file a series of charges against Warner Bros and Christopher Nolan, the director of The Dark Knight.

Sorry folks...this is not a joke....

Mayor Kalkan has stated that "There is only one Batman in the world." and "The American producers used the name of our city without informing us."

What? Is this guy serious? Unfortunately....yes, he is. He claims to have evidence that will prove the city of Batman was founded before the 1939 debut of DC Comic's superhero by the same name.

According to Variety -- He also hopes to pin a number of unsolved murders along with the town's female suicide rate on the psychological impact the film's success had on Batman residence.

I wonder why suddenly there is a problem with Batman, the superhero.....could it be the nice amount of profit that it got worldwide from The Dark Knight? Any reason DC is not involved?

I don't think the movie has had any psychological impact on the people of Batman at all.....actually, I think it is the way things are done over there....

I came across an old article by the NY Times from 2006 where they discuss how there were so many "suicides" that the United Nations had to send someone to go check things out.....

There are also stories on how a person from Batman living in another area cannot use the name Batman in their business name.

What?

To see that little article I mentioned go here: Killing or Suicide?

Warner Bros has not received anything yet...so maybe he will change his mind.

What is MXP4?

MXP4Player

Musinaut, a company based in Paris, have created MXp4 , a new music platform consisting of two components.

The MXP4 Creator is an editing tool devoted to creating music in the new mxp4 format. This format takes the MP3 concept, improves the encoding quality, then splits the whole thing into layers and tracks. This allows the user to create their remix whenever they want easily.

The MXP4 Player allows users to listen to any mxp4 track and to switch between variations available versions of the track (ex. remix1,remix2,acoustic,etc.). An MXP4 file may also contain multimedia information such as visuals, text, etc.

Could this be the next big thing? Only time will tell.... for more information check out the facts:

Hall and Oates Sue Publisher

Daryl Hall and John Oates are suing their music publisher. They say their song ‘Maneater’ was used without their permission, and that the publisher refused to protect their publishing agreement.

The suit, which was filed in Manhattan, says that a singer-songwriter used the song in 2006, and when they asked their publisher Warner/Chappell to sue for copyright infringement, the company refused.

Hall and Oates are now are seeking damages from Warner/Chappell and want to end their contract with the company.

Warner/Chappell spokeswoman Amanda Collins said Thursday the lawsuit was "completely without merit." She added, "We will defend ourselves vigorously."

Twelve Pigs In A Car.....

Budapest, Hungary - Two men stopped at a routine traffic check were caught with twelve pigs stuffed tightly in a car. The pigs weighed about 25-30 kg (55-66 lb) each.

Police say that the pigs came from a nearby farm, where 35 pigs have gone missing in recent days.

In other news.....

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - It starts where Fairbanks police receive a report shortly after midnight that a Ford Escort had been taken from the parking lot of a gentlemen's club.

Two hours later an officer spots the missing car and pulls it over. Charles J. Schultz explained that he was driving his Chevy Cavalier and everything was fine. Mr. Schultz was then informed that it was a stolen vehicle.

Police stated the 27-year-old's blood-alcohol content was .166. The reading is more than twice the legal limit.

Schultz has been charged with auto theft, felony driving under the influence and misdemeanor drugs misconduct. He has maintained that he has no memory of taking the wrong car at the club.

Warrant Out For Mos Def

Mos Def, whose real name is Dante Terrell Smith, is being sought in Las Vegas by police on an arrest warrant. The warrant is stemming from a scuffle with a photographer at a fashion trade show last August say authorities and the victim.

Volker Corell, 60, a Los Angeles-based photographer states that the 35 year-old rapper/actor tore his camera from around his neck on August 26th.

The photographer was on assignment to take photos at the trade show when he was allegedly attacked. He states that the last photos taken on his camera before it was broken show Def clearly reaching for him. "The last shot was his hands in front of the lens," Corell said.

Las Vegas police spokesman Ramon Denby says that the invesigators expected Def to turn himself in by the end of the week and face the warrant charge of felony robbery and misdemeanor malicious destruction of property. The warrant was issued at the beginning of the week.

A conviction for misdemeanor destruction of property less than $250 can bring up to six months in county jail. Robbery can carry a sentence of probation or two to 15 years in state prison.

Just A Few Things That Heppened....

El DeBarge, the former lead singer of his family group DeBarge, is back in jail without bail due to two outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest earlier this month for possession of a controlled substance.

According to Variety, John Singleton is no longer going to direct the feature film adaptation of the 80s TV series "The A-Team" ( oh man....I was just waiting for that one!)

Sly Stallone says - "Rambo hopefully will be back. We've just got to give you guys a story that's worthwhile."

(I really wasn't waiting for A-Team and the thought of another Rambo frightens me.)

Remember the group 112? If anyone wondered what happened to them (probably not), the group broke up last year after members Michael Keith and Marvin "Slim" Scandrick fell out with another member of the band. In an interview Keith states "I had to leave because I found out that a certain member of the group took my publishing check," Keith told Lee Bailey of EUR. "It was made clear that it was intended for myself and another member, Slim."

He didn't name names but feels that the accused will probably release some sort of rebuttal....oh well...

IT GETS WORSE!!!!!!!!!

Diddy is reportedly planning to release an album filled entirely with songs enhanced by Auto-Tune. WAIT....THERE IS MORE!!!!!!!!
In fact, he might be collaborating with T-Pain to develop more unique ways to utilize the contraption. OH THE HUMANITY!!!!! (my ears hurt just thinking about it).

And that is just a few things that happened.

Mezzanine De L’Alcazar Volume 6 on Defected

Mezzanine De L’Alcazar is known as a destination restaurant in Paris. It is known as a multi-sensory experience with its cuisine, its' art exhibitions, and its choice of delicate disco and luscious soulful house music in the background.

I was quite surprised at what I was hearing with this release. With its downtempo, soulful mix it truly is what (they) say it is...."This delicate collection of specially selected tracks has been designed to stimulate the senses whilst dining and then later after your espresso, it sets the mood with sophisticated music to dance to."

I might have to check out Vol 1-5 as well.

Kaskade: The Om Remixes Out Now!

From beginning to end the latest from Kaskade, the om remixes, is beautifully done. This is definitely a must have for any Kaskade fan, for any House fan, and for the Omies!

UK Blogger To Appear In Court

35 year old civil servant Darryn Walker is accused of violating England's Obscene Publications Act by blogging about the fictional rape and murder of the pop group Girls Aloud.

The Obscene Publications Act is 50 years old and this case is considered the first real test since porn has become widely available.

Trouble at eMusic?

Coming not too long after CEO David Pakman left to join Venrock, and as the search continues, eMusic has cut 10% of its workforce. Danny Stein, who chairs eMusic has stated that their(eMusic) retail partners that bundle the service with other products are reporting sales.

Despite this it is said that online traffic remains strong and that they expect it to gain revenue by 40% for this year.

Emusic has had its share of issues over the past year....they have had fall-outs with some indie labels, the subscription issue, and the lack of major labels on board.

There is reportedly a possibility that more layoffs are expected around Christmastime.
