Wu-Tang Revealed (trailer)

Out of nowhere across the interwebs a trailer has surfaced as the long awaited documentary by GZA. The doc is titled "Wu-Tang Revealed". GZA announced this documentary a few years ago and many fans have been waiting for news. Well, here it is. I haven't been able to find out anything further about it but it does look interesting.

Consumed Links - June 3, 2010

Yet another mix of things going on that you may or may not have heard about or seen.

"She Blinded Me With Science"
Thomas Dolby is set to release his first studio album in 20 years. (Mi2N)

Janet Jackson leaving the music industry behind? (zilla)  Now, I could be considered a sort of still fan... but is it wrong to say that I really won't miss her based on recent endeavors?

Mary J Blige is set to play Nina Simone in an upcoming movie.... (spinner)

Here's a great article discussing concept albums... (stuff)

And lastly for now....

From over at the T.R.O.Y. blog here is a well written piece on ghostwriting.... (T.R.O.Y.1)

Dr Dre Suing Death Row

Rapper/Producer Dr Dre has reportedly filed suit against Death Row Records. The suit claims that since he left the label in 1996 he has not been paid royalties for his 1992 album, The Chronic. He also claimed that the 2009 reissue, The Chronic: Re-Lit, was released without his consent.

In the suit, Dre claims that his lawyers notified the new owners of the label, WIDEawake, about not being paid the royalties and they have yet to pay him.

Howard King, Dr Dre's (real name Andre Young) lawyer, said in a statement,  "When it comes to paying artist royalties and honoring limits on Dr Dre recordings that could be released, the "new" Death Row Records, to quote out client, 'forgot about Dre'. This lawsuit will make sure they remember."

Dr Dre is suing for at least $75,000.

Deathrow Records/WIDEawake Entertainment has yet to release a statement.

Mathematics, the groups' official DJ, produced most of the tracks.  You can download the track "Early Grave" at RCRD LBL now.

Video: Breeze Brewin - P.P.T. (Pessimistic Personal Trainer)

Finally, a new single from the legendary, underground icon, Breeze Brewin (of Juggaknots fame).

Yet another conceptual track, which he just can't seem to go wrong with, ever.

This time the Brewin takes a stab at the "Beck - Loser" concept. Maybe even doing a little sampling or "interpolating" of said track and video. The maxi-single, "The Application", drops October 18th.

Check the video here-

If the you aren't familiar with prior Brewin efforts, let's take a quick look at a couple of other
great things he's done:

After being signed to a fruitless deal with Elektra from 1993 to around 1995, 96, The Juggaknots
(Breeze, his brother Buddy Slim, and sister Queen Heroine),bounced to Bobbito Garcia's Fondle 'Em Records.
On Fondle 'Em, they released the indisputably classic "Clear Blue Skies" EP.

The title cut was well recieved and remains one of the most original takes on racism ever.

Check it-

In 1998 or 99, I forget which, he collaborated with Prince Paul to drop arguably one of the greatest
concept albums in hip hop, "Prince Among Thieves".

I can't even begin to list the legendary names that worked on this album.

Check out the fake movie trailer they did for this-

Moving on along to 2001, again taking a look at not only racism, but also the annoyance of holiday
shopping for kids, The Juggaknots talk about the racial ideas behind the show "Dukes Of Hazard"
with "Generally".

Peep it-

Well, I could probably go on for another page or two about how great The Juggaknots are,
but I'll just leave you with this. Here's their video "Namesake" off of their 2006 album
"Use Your Confusion". This song basically tell's some of their story-

Download their "Clear Blue Skies EP" on Fondle 'Em from 1996 here.

It was then re released in 2002 with 11 bonus cuts, mostly older demos that are pretty great.

Cop that here or wherever else you can find it.

Cop their 2006 "Use Your Confusion" album here.

Check them out on myspace here.

And check the interview with Breeze that Robbie did at Unkut.com .

S.A.S.- The Ceiling

There are plenty of times I pass by some video or another and say to myself that perhaps I will look at it later. I think I have a pretty fair sense of knowing if I will like something or not in a matter of seconds. I will admit. I almost passed on this one. I was pretty surprised to find that this wasn't all too bad. The beat is a little weak but it is listenable. The rhyming is pretty well done...
Anyhow, check it out and let me know what you think.

Schizoid Club -- Outlaw

Schizoid Club is an electronic/dj outfit from the UK. Their sound fuses hip-hop, electronic, funk, breakbeat, and down-tempo in an intriguing way that makes me want to listen to the same track over and over and then do the same with the next one.

Below is one of the tracks that I felt stood out from the rest. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Don't forget to check out the link to their myspace page below as well as pick up a copy of the album. It is now available via Per Capita Records.

So what? I'm a little late with this. But this brings up a point from a conversation I had a while ago... Where is the innovation in the music these days? I don't mean just in hip-hop....but across the board.

Hey Willie...Where's My Phone?

Former Geto Boys rapper, William 'Willie D' James Dennis, was arrested at Bush Intercontinental Airport after he was indicted for his relationship with a company named Texas One Wireless.

He is now currently facing 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on charges that he ran an Internet scam. Sources say that Dennis was posing as an electronic salesman and used eBay to interact with international buyers.

Allegedly he conducted business transactions independently and outside of eBay to taking orders for iPhones and other electronics. He sent tracking numbers but customers got nothing. Funds were being transferred to his bank account.

Dennis would tell complaining consumers that the packages were lost in the mail, and/or that he could not refund their money until he located the products, and then he would eventually cease communications with the victims.
