Do You Think They Ate The Evidence?

In McAllen, Texas customs inspectors checked a 21-year old Texas woman who declared several soiled diapers at the the US-Mexican border crossing.

Upon inspection they found found several links of spicy pork sausage, or chorizo, inside. The chunky diapers had been folded in a manner to look soiled.

The woman, who remained unidentified was fined $300 and her chorizo was seized.

And what made her think that soiled diapers wouldn't be at least a little suspicious?

I Have Decided To Sue Everyone Suddenly

Blues singer (and father of R&B singer Syleena Johnson) Syl Johnson reportedly in January of this year was suing Michael Jackson, Will Smith, Tupac Shakur and KRS-One – claiming they stole his 1967 single "Different Strokes" without attributing him or paying for the sample.

Well, now he is suing someone else - rap group Cypress Hill. He claims the group sampled his 1969 record "Is It Because I'm Black?" on a track from their 1993 album "Black Sunday" titled "Lock Down (Interlude)." Along with the also recent honorees of VH1's Hip Hop Honors, he is suing a number of record and publishing companies for the brief soundbyte as well.

Why all of a sudden?

Colorado Car Crash Caused By Catfight

Colorado State Police troopers ticketed a woman for careless driving after she rolled
her car while her two cats were fighting in her lap.

The catfight happened ast the woman was driving along Interstate 70 and caused her to lose control of her car. The swerving vehicle forced another car and a
semi-truck off the road. The driver was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries said the police. The cats escaped the accident...presumably unharmed and have yet to be found.

And just think....Arnold is keeping it okay to have lapdogs in the car in California.

Bon Jovi Sued

A musician has filed a lawsuit against the band Bon Jovi accusing them of plagiarism.

Court documents state that Massachusetts-based musician Samuel Bartley Steele alleges the group copied lyrics from his 2004 song "(Man I Really) Love This Team," used as the anthem for
his hometown's baseball team, The Red Sox. He also alleges the group's front man Jon Bon Jovi heard the song while campaigning for Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry in 2004, and used its lyrics to create his hit song "I Love This Town," a song later used as a promotional track for Major League Baseball.

Steele calls the rocker's composition an "unauthorized derivative
version" of his song in the federal suit adding, "As intent will be easy to prove, we are seeking the statutorily authorized amount of $100,000 per CD sold. Just under 4 million CDs have been sold to date. This totals almost $400 billion."

Just A Minute....

Some goings on in short in the music world:

Alicia Keys leads the pack this year in American Music Award nominations with four - including Artist of the Year and Favorite Soul/R&B Album for her latest CD "As I Am."

Fox411 columnist Roger Friedman is claiming that Beyonce's new single, "If I Were a Boy," was written by an up-and-coming songwriter from San Diego who had no idea that the singer had recorded her song until it was too late.

Tim McGraw apologized to fans Tuesday for his latest greatest hits album, saying his label should have instead released a record with new music.

An duet between (deceased)stars Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes and Tupac Shakur is said to be featured on the TLC star's posthumous solo album.

The Cure's forthcoming 13th album '4:13' is due for release – but you can every track right now over on Stereogum.

Zeppelin Without Plant?

There have been some reports that Led Zeppelin have been rehearsing for an upcoming tour with singer/songwriter/guitarist Myles Kennedy of the Washington band Alter Bridge.

Previously there were statements (possibly from Robert Plant) in which one he denied a reunion tour and new album and then one that stated he would tour. Currently he is on tour with Alison Krauss in support of their album.

Apparently money is the reason Zep wanted to tour....and if Plant was out...fine....they were going to use Kennedy. These claims have arrived after Dee Snider (of Twisted Sister) "leaked" details of the rehearsal.

Already fans are leaving comments on blogs of how the idea of going out without Plant looks bad...some fans are sighting the (kind-of recent) outings of other bands with new leads....
Just think of these bands and you will know what we mean....Queen, The Doors(or whatever name they call themselves legally now),INXS, Van Halen...oh yeah...never mind.

A Living Art Frame?

A Swiss musician says he must give the large tattoo on his back to a German man who paid him to become a living, breathing picture frame upon his death.

Yes, you read what you thought you read....

Tim Steiner says that as part of his deal with Rik Reinking, an art collector, he endured 30 hours of tattoo work and upon his death he must surrender his back skin. He must also make at least three appearances at art shows each year to show off the back tattoo.

"Nothing has changed for me," he said. "I'm just the frame that gets to carry the picture round."

The 30-year-old Steiner says that he is "amused" to be wearing art work created by conceptual artist Wim Delvoye.

Though he would rather not talk or think about his post-mortem details of the agreement he says "....my back will gain a sort of permanence, outliving everyone else. That amuses me."

Well, I just think it is kind of gross.

How Did I Miss This?

The Parents Television Council, the Enough is Enough Campaign for Corporate Responsibility, the National Congress of Black Women, and Industry Ears jointly praised BET for the announcement that the music video show, "Rap City" has been canceled.

PTC and Enough is Enough Campaign's conducted a study of daytime music video programming from BET and MTV and concluded that as recently as March 2008, children who watched BET's "Rap City" and "106 & Park" and MTV's "Sucker Free" were bombarded with adult content - sexual, violent, profane or obscene - once every 38 seconds.

This follows closely on the heels of the announcement that BET President Reginald Hudlin had resigned.

PTC President Tim Winter; Enough is Enough Campaign Founder Dr. Delman Coates; National Congress of Black Women Chair Dr. E. Faye Williams; and Industry Ears Co-Founder Paul Porter release the following statement jointly:

"We are heartened by the recent changes at BET, and we are gratified that our collective efforts were a catalyst for this positive change. It is apparent that our voices were heard by the public, by the corporate sponsors who underwrite television programming and by BET network executives. Parents across this country want a cessation of marketing harmful, graphic and offensive images to children. But let us be clear about our goal: we are not trying to get a particular show canceled or a particular executive fired. Rather, our goal is a reduction in the harmful and offensive messages on BET and MTV programming - especially when the programs are targeted at children. We have called for the networks to take responsibility for their products, and this program's cancellation is evidence of a step in the right direction."

While we do need hip-hop shows....maybe certain ones should be on later in the evening...and were the parents checking what the kids were watching? Is 106 next?

California Governor Vetoes 'Donda West Bill.'

I don't live in California....but I must wonder....what bills did get passed? What bills were a great priority to Arnold?

As far as Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is concerned the "Donda West Bill" is not one of them. "This bill does not meet that standard, and I cannot sign it at this time," read the veto message, one of dozens Schwarzenegger sent.

The cosmetic-surgery bill, AB 2968,would have required people to undergo a physical examination, give a complete medical history and get a doctor's clearance before undergoing plastic surgery.
According to the LA Times the bill received nearly unanimous support in the legislature.

The bill was prompted by the November 2007 death of Kanye West's mother, Dr. Donda West, who died a day after undergoing a breast reduction and liposuction surgery.

The Postman Stole Your Undies?

In EXETER, England-- a 35-year-old postal worker in the British town of Weymouth was arrested allegedly wearing a woman's thong taken from a mail delivery.

After receiving complaints of missing packages the police began tracking Matthew Furness while he was on duty. The missing packages in question all contained female-oriented products. This led to the police to place a package containing female underwear in his delivery van. The police are alleging that the package disappeared within hours and the postal worker was questioned by investigators.

The Sun is reporting that after the man denied the allegations the police conducted a stip search and found Furness wearing the missing red thong from the package.

Later he pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and received a two-year conditional discharge and a fine, the newspaper said.

Ultra 2009 Out Now.....

The latest in Ultra Records annual series, Ultra 2009, features some of the "hottest dance hits and remixes from some of the biggest DJs and Producers" from this year.

Mixed by The Riddler and Cato K, the album features tracks/treatments by September, David Guetta, Armin Van Buuren, Basshunter, Kaskade, Deadmau5, Cascada, and many more.

While there are some big names on there....I have to ask...while, I do buy the occasional mix from Ultra....how many of the songs are going to be on the next mix? What I mean is...how many of these mixes will have the same exact songs on them? Can they promise me that this mix or the remixes are more exclusive? Now that would make me buy it today....rather than waiting a little bit. Then again....Deadmau5 is on there....and he is one of my favorites right now....I am going to get his album.

For more information and to buy the 2009 mix go to Ultra Records.

Police say the man was drunk when he argued with the woman. When she declined his advances went to the basement where he urinated on her dog and the floor. Police then say the argument continued, and when the woman's sister stood up in defense the man pushed her into a wall. He then allegedly stormed from the home and punched out a window.

In A Hot Minute.........

It is that time of year where all of the hip-hop (good, bad , and downright ugly) all need to be released for the wonderful 4th quarter....and many of us music fans get disappointed by what we ended up with....

With that in mind here is what has been up in the hip-hop realm.....things moving quickly....

In the recent issue of Wax Poetics magazine, MF Doom is questioned about the rumors of "imposter perfomances". "I did some show, wrecked it, girls climbing up onstage and shit," says Doom.
"That was the first time that happened--but we was rocking, right? Somebody from the label was going to be there. I was like, 'Cool, he saw the show, and it was wrecked.'" Continuing he states, "Next couple of days, I speak to him, and he was like, 'Good show, but a lot of people are saying it wasn't you!'"

For the rest of the interview check out the current issue of Wax Poetics....

The reunion album for EPMD titled '
We Mean Business' now has a release date of December 9th. Guests mentioned are: Redman, Havoc (Mobb Deep), Raekwon, KRS-One, and 9th Wonder.

While some of us are just waiting for that new Common album to come and go....(originally titled Invincible Summer now called Universal Mind Control -out early Dec.)
Common is saying that 'The Believer' will be the next album....this was the album he started to make and then ....

DJ Babu's Duck Season Volume 3 will be in stores Oct. 28 via Nature Sounds.

“From the jump, my point was to put the spotlight on artists and songs that I felt needed more exposure,” Babu explains (interview here with HipHopDX) “It’s like a full evolution. Everything I’ve done solo and with my other groups has led up to this point. On this one I produced, and mixed everything.” Don't forget to check out the track "The Unexpected" (w/ MF DOOM and Sean Price).

That's all I can take for now.....more to come.

RIP - Rudy Ray Moore

In what looks like such a sad year in the case of musical icons yet another has passed. Comedian, musician, singer, film actor, and film producer Rudy Ray Moore died Sunday, October 19th at the age of 81.

Moore, perhaps better known as Dolemite, the uniquely articulate pimp from the films Dolemite, and its sequel, The Human Tornado, began his career as an R&B singer (which continued throughout his comedy career). His comedy albums produced in the 60s and 70s featured an explicit style comparative to Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx.

The self-proclaimed "Godfather of Rap" had a significant effect on comedians and hip-hop artists with his rhyming style, braggadocio and profanity-laced routines.

In 1997 he told the Miami Herald,"I wasn't saying dirty words just to say them. It was a form of art, sketches in which I developed ghetto characters who cursed. I don't want to be referred to as a dirty old man, rather a ghetto expressionist."

Dolemite is my name
And rappin and tappin
that's my game
I'm young and free
And just as bad as I wanna
be.

This plan would create new legislation that would make the recording of the fact of communication (not the content) mandatory. Sources have told reporters that one option would be to create a single, Government-operated database of records. There would be consultation on these measures prior to passing the law.

President Signs PRO IP Act Into Law

Publishers and songwriters have applauded the President for signing into law S. 3325, the Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act (PRO-IP Act) of 2008.

This law will ensure America's intellectual property rights are better enforced on a global scale. Also, convicted counterfeiters will now be subject to increased fines and the forfeiture of their property.

The White House yesterday released a statement which reads in part, "In recent years, counterfeiting has grown rapidly. Counterfeiting costs America hundreds of billions of dollars a year and has harmful effects throughout the economy. Fake products can expose consumers to serious health and safety risks. Government loses out on tax revenues and is forced to divert law enforcement resources. Terrorist networks use counterfeit sales to finance their operations."

The size of government just got bigger, with the creation of one more office. The new law will create the office of the Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC). Despite its' name it is noted that the office "will be explicitly separated from responsibility for or direction of any law enforcement agency that carries out IP law", according to the law's final language.

The White House's statement did not give mention of the IPEC office, which may mean that it could remain vacant in the final months of the Bush Administration.

Lyricist of the Year?

Really BET? Are you sure? I can and cannot believe that BET awarded Lil Wayne the lyricist of the year at this years Hip-Hop awards. It could have been worse though...they could have chosen Souljah Boy...but come on Lil Wayne? Really?
The New Orleans rapper, who had 12 nominations, was named MVP of the Year as well.

I would love to see what the guys over at the T.R.O.Y. blog would make lyricist of the year...

This is just another sad reason why BET is no longer worth watching....well, except for the American Gangster docs.

Oh yeah....and did you know the readers of Vibe magazine voted Eminem the best rapper alive?

New Memoir On The Way.....

Eminem has a memoir due to come out on October 21st called "The Way I Am". This should keep fans busy while they wait for the new album titled "Relapse" to arrive. The book will feature handwritten, personal photos, and sentiments about his violent past.

Here is an excerpt in which he ponders his erratic behavior:
"When I look back at myself during those years when everything was blowing up, I think maybe at first I was a little, you know, too aggressive and loud. It was like I had this voice and I had to be heard. ''Don't f*ck with me,' to the point where people must have been wondering, Why is this dude so angry? Is he on crack? Is he on crystal meth? I go back and see old interviews and even now I wonder, Why was I so hyper?

At this time there is no release date for the album.

Why Subway....Why?

I do not know who the person was who thought this one up but....this is just bad marketing.

Subway has this new campaign for their $5 subs that quite a few are finding to be racist.
As you see above we have a blingged-out Abe Lincoln....just look at him...do you see what is wrong with this picture?

Anyhow, as one would see and hear when going to the page ....Abe speaks out the words on the page.....and you can choose to "Text A Holla!" or "Email A Holla!".....are you kidding me?

This is how it worked for one of the messages I put together....(you have to choose from the lists)

Yo, SUBWAY’S got lots of Footlongs for just $5. That's some every day V baby. Get to SUBWAY and help me lay some smack down on hunger.

Dj Ayres - Ghostbusters Got It Twisted

Mixing Mobb Deeps' Got It Twisted with Ray Parker Jrs' Ghostbusters....Dj Ayres made a song I probably never would have listened to catchy....

Dj Ayres- Ghostbusters Got It Twisted

Interesting and a bit Scary

Even I am a bit intrigued of what this would sound like...

Picture this Ne-Yo and Marilyn Manson...collaborating?

After boasting the he is such a flexible and diverse artist he stated that he could even write a hit for Manson.

Well, apparently Manson's people have approached Ne-Yo....
"It's going to be interesting," says Ne-Yo, "I have no idea what we're going to do, what it's going to sound like. Just Ne-Yo and Marilyn Manson in the same room—we're going to figure something out."

Well At Least He Tried To Pay With Something Green...

Man goes to a McDonalds...orders food.....offers to (allegedly) pay with...marijuana?

That is the story coming out of Vero Beach, Florida. The Indian River County Sheriffs department state that a cashier at above mentioned McDonalds called 911 and said that a man at the drive-thru offered to pay for his meal with marijuana and gave a description of the vehicle he was in.

The cops found the vehicle (marijuana inside) and arrested it's occupant, 27 year-old Shawn Alexander Pannullo.

Pannullo was charged with possession and posted the bail of $500.

It is unclear if he paid for his food using something else.

How come these stories don't surprise me anymore?

Funny how the Democrats aren't having this problem...

....or perhaps they have and nobody has mentioned it....here is a list of some of the artists and the songs in question where the Republicans have been asked "Do Not Use My Song!"

1- Bruce Springsteen- "Born In The USA" - I read once that Ronald Regan didn't even know what the song was truly about.

2- Boston- " More Than A Feeling" Mike Huckabee used this one to cap off his events many times. The writer of the song Tom Scholz wrote the campaign a letter asking for the song to not be used. He believed that the use of the song showed he endorsed Huckabee when he already gave his endorsement to Barack Obama.

3- John Mellencamp- "Pink Houses" and "Our Country" Mr. Mellencamp is a Democrat. He endorsed John Edwards by giving him permission to use his songs. Days later of a "cease-and-desist" was issued. The McCain camp pulled the songs off of the playlist.

4- Orleans - "Still The One" John Hall, a co-writer on the song (also a Democratic Congressman) had sent a cease-and -desist letter twice on this song....(Bush in 2004 and more recently McCain)

5- Van Halen- "Right Now" The brothers Van Halen sent out a letter stating that there wasn't any permission nor would there have been in use of the song. Sammy Hagar stated that he thought it was ok for the use but does not necessarily endorse McCain.

6- Jackson Browne- "Running On Empty" McCain used this song for an ad against Obama's gas-related statements. Mr. Browne (a lifelong democrat) has filed a lawsuit against Sen. McCain and the Republican Party. The lawsuit is still pending at this time.

7- Heart - "Barracuda" Sarah Palin has used that track based on a high school nickname....well, Nancy Wilson sent a cease-and-desist letter to the Republican party. Mrs. Wilson feels that Sarah Palin does not represent the "views and values" of American women. At this time the song is still being used at rallies.

8- Gretchen Peters " Independence Day" This is a track recorded by Martina McBride about an abused woman. Peters has vehemently gone again the McCain/Palin campaign for using this song and taking the song out of context (especially due to the irony of Palin's beliefs).

9- Foo Fighters- "My Hero" Dave Grohl is an Obama supporter. The song is written as celebration of the common man and his potential. Dave Grohl has condemned McCain's use of the song citing how "frustrating and infuriating" that this man who speaks for Americans "would repeatedly show such little respect" for intellectual property and the creativity of these artists.

Why Is He Doing This?

I just do not know what to think of this? Did he need the money? It could be worse though. He could be doing an ad for underwear or chapstick.

Radiohead and Kanye?

Every once in awhile I seem to stumble upon a track that I cannot stop thinking about. One that I feel must be listened to at least 3-5 in a row.
This is such a case.
Not everyone can make a mash-up and get so many great responses. I encourage you all to check out Reckoner Lockdown and see what everyone has been talking about.
