Man Proves Car Didn't Go As Fast As They Said It Did

Dale Lyle, of Staple Hill, England, received a letter from the Crown Prosecution Service informing him that a speed camera clocked his car going at 98mph.

He decided to contest the charge (max fine is $1,430 and six-month suspension). Magistrates in court challenged him to prove the car was unable to reach 98mph.

Lyle bought back his recently sold car and hired an independent expert to test drive the car. The test proved that the car was unable to go above 85mph.
A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said the charges had been dropped once prosecutors "came to the conclusion that there was no longer sufficient evidence to provide a prospect of a conviction."

Lyle said he paid $860 for the car and the same for the expert. "I'm really glad I fought the system and won but I think I will have trouble getting the money I spent. The whole thing has been a complete shambles and waste of money. It's shocking how hard it has been for me to prove my innocence."

Office manager Diana Clark said the robber is not the first to be mistaken. "We've had people come in here asking to cash a check."

Nobody was harmed in the incident.

'Boondocks' Creator On Obama

There is a sotry out that Aaron McGruder, creator of "The Boondocks" comic strip, upset an audience at Earlham College (Indiana) recently.

Speaking at the college, McGruder answered questions posed by the audience. When the topic of race and ethnicity came up McGruder reportedly said, "The only person who is one of us in the White House is Michelle Obama and her momma." He also said that to him, (Barack) Obama is not black because he is not a decendant of a slave.

He then reportedly proceeded to express an overall pessimistic view of the incoming Obama administration. "I don't think you're going to see any dramatic change from Barack Obama,I'm hoping he proves me completely wrong."

In response to the story Mr McGruder issued the following press release:

"For a long time now, I have tried to keep my opinions on the election and Barack Obama to myself. I occasionally do speaking engagements, which are not open to the press, and unfortunately some of my comments have been twisted around in a silly manner. The claim that I asserted our new President was not Black is categorically false.

"I have seen an endless stream of Black pundits on TV pontificating about the significance of President Obama's election - many of them making reference to the 3/5th's clause in the constitution regarding slaves. The point I was making is that this is not an accurate comparison.

"Barack is the son of an immigrant, not the descendant of slaves. It's like comparing a half-Japanese man to the oppressed Chinese who built the American railroads. Yes, they are both Asian, but it is not an honest or accurate comparison. We all share the common experiences of being Black in America today - we do not all share a common history. A history that in part makes us who we are - and in some cases (as with the psychological damage that still lingers from slavery) holds us back. These are not, I believe, insignificant distinctions.

"I did say I was cautiously pessimistic about Obama's Presidency - but this is simply acknowledging the reality of an American Empire that is out of control and on the verge of collapse. Let us not forget that on the eve of the election, we witnessed a near-trillion dollar robbery of the US treasury. That robbery is still taking place. I do not blame President Obama, but I do not believe the financial and corporate interests that own and control this country will fold so easily. I do not question the integrity of the man as much as the power of his office - which I believe has greatly diminished over the years. I believe the Federal Reserve Bank, the Military Industrial Complex, and the massive corporate interests that run this country have more power than our new President. I hope I am wrong.

"After 9/11, I witnessed most of this country become obsessed with squashing dissent and silencing critics. I hope this election does not turn Black America towards this same, fascist mind state; but already I am starting to see it, and it saddens me greatly. I absolutely wish our new President and his family success and safety. But after all I have witnessed in my lifetime, and especially in the last eight years, I am not ready to lay down my skepticism or my outrage for this government. To do so would be unwise and, ironically enough, anti-American."

Sold! Death Row Records

Death Row Records has been sold for $18million as part of its Chapter 11 proceedings in Los Angeles.

The new owner is Wide Awake Entertainment. Wide Awake Entertainment
is a Canada based company founded in 2006 with only one recording
at this time to its credit. Billboard Magazine reports that this company
has little experience dealing with the U.S. marketplace and
does not have any distribution deals in place outside
of its southern border.

Laura Lavi, founder and CEO of Wide Awake, said the label has been in contact with several U.S. companies to try to ensure Americans will
still have domestic access to Death Row’s catalogue.
“We have some ideas,” Lavi told Billboard. “We’re very respectful of
Death Row’s legacy and when the time is right we’ll announce that.”

Goodbye Circuit City

Circuit City Stores Inc. announced that it has run out of options and will be forced to liquidate its 567 stores in the United States.

In November, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

It is unclear what will happen to the 765 retail stores in Canada.

No Jackson In Iron Man 2?

Samuel Jackson, who had a cameo as Nick Fury at the end of the
hit movie "Iron Man",
spoke to Los Angeles Times recently about the
possibility that he will not return to the
role for the sequel nor
for "The Avengers".

It seems that talks between his management team and the
bosses behind the movie
franchise have stalled.

"There was a huge kind of negotiation that broke down. I don’t
know. Maybe I won’t be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be
Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won’t be in it. There seems to be
an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world so (they're saying
to me), ‘We’re not making that deal'.''

That's a shame. I hope it works out....I can't think of anyone
else to take that part.

UMG vs. EFF

In May 2007 Universal Music Group sued a Los Angeles-based trader on eBay. Troy Augusto, who runs the business called "Roast Beast Music Collectibles", makes a living selling rare albums he bought at second-hand record stores.

UMG is suing Augusto for copyright infringement. They are saying that some of the items he offered for sale online were promotional copies and were not authorized for sale to the public.

Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), a digital rights lobby group, is taking on the case on Augusto's behalf and is counter-suing Universal.

In regards to promotional copies, for quite some time record companies have maintained that they own these items and may ask for them to be returned at any time.

Due to the promo items that were contained in the eBay auctions from Mr Augusto, this is the argument that is close to being tested in court.

UMG's lawyers allege "Augusto's unauthorized distribution of the UMG promo CDs violated UMG's exclusive right to distribute its copyrighted works" in legal documents filed in the US District Court for the Central District of California.

This is a battle that will possibly shake things up for a bit.

DJ Casper Suing Over Copyright And Publishing Rights

DJ Casper, the creator of the song "Cha Cha Slide," has filed a lawsuit against several parties.

According to the lawsuit filed December 31, he entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with M.O.B. Records in 2000. Songwriter Jerome Haywood has been named in the suit as the man who helped Casper fill out the copyright forms for the song. He feels that both Haywood and M.O.B. has cheated him out of royalties by taking the copyright and licensing for themselves and designating his composition as a “work for hire” project.

Casper goes on in the lawsuit stating that "royalties were never paid and [the] Plaintiff (DJ Casper) never received any accounting statements despite demands, and even as the song became very popular and, on information and belief, Defendant M.O.B. sold over 500,000 copies.”

He also believes that the parties obtained their own copyrights in order to take complete ownership of the hit 2003 record.

In 2007, the song was prominently used by McDonalds for a national Happy Meal commercial. It reached No. 1 on Billboard’s U.S. and UK charts.

Everyone Needs a Bailout

Perhaps some of you have heard...our porn industry needs money. It seems Larry Flynt (Hustler Magazine) and Joe Francis (Girls Gone Wild) are going or have gone to Washington to ask the government for a $5billion bail-out. Flynt is quoted as saying “With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind, it’s time for Congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America.”

They are citing sales to be down 22% due to the economic slump.

Are you kidding me? I hope they get nothing....and it isn't like I am against porn...I'm not...it's just...really guys, really? Are you losing your homes like all of those hard-working people out there who have been struggling since before this slump? You still have jobs? Can you still eat?

A Picture I Took

I love taking pictures...thought I would show this one...I think it is pretty.

A 911 Call For Being Drunk

A 17-year-old female called police in Bismarck, North Dakota to report a crime. "I've never heard of such a thing happening, and neither had anyone here",said Lt. Randy Ziegler.

The girl called 911 on New Year's Eve to "report herself driving under the influence". Police found her in a parked car with her keys in her purse. She failed a sobriety test and had been arrested for failing to have control of her vehicle while intoxicated. She was not cited for drunk driving.

Lt. Ziegler said he thinks the call was a plea for help. "She told us her life was spiraling out of control...."

She has been released and returned to her parents.
